~~~~~ And the critics love it! ~~~~~
"Robots & Pencils have done a great job bringing a classic game over to iOS and fans of the original will be able to jump right back in the action with fresh visuals that only add to the original experience. For those players, its a game that really lends itself to the pick-up and play style, and quick levels make it perfect for gaming on the go. The tutorial also makes it easy for someone whos never played Spy vs Spy to get started, laying out the details without taking too long. Overall, the game looks and plays great and anyone ready for a new iOS game to sink their teeth into should definitely check it out later this summer." - MTV Geek!
"For retroheads, this new iOS version looks set to bring back some warm and fuzzy memories, as - while it may sport upgraded graphics and new touch controls - its effectively the same game you remember bashing away at on your C64 or ZX Spectrum." - Pocket Gamer
"These features and the strategic gameplay make Spy vs. Spy a fantastic remake and expansion of a classic game. Now, if we could just remember where we put that furshlugginer bomb..." - slide to Play
Pros and cons of Spy vs Spy app for iPhone and iPad
Spy vs Spy app good for
As a big Spy vs Spy fan, I can say that this game is probably the best game based on them. Its fun, interactive, and enjoyable. This game hasnt been updated in two years, so its safe to say that nothing is being fixed or added in the near future.
The game is great great remake but I bought this to play online with other people multiplayer does not work at all you would think after two years of people complaining they would get this fixed come on support team lets get to it
At first. The game was confusing but u people should read the tutorial twice and pay close attention the second time if u dont understand it the first. U NEED THE BREIFCASE and once u know that it is very fun
Finally a game that requires some thought process.. A Must have
Good app, its just confusing at first but the more you play the easier it gets. I loved the book series so thats half the reason i got it!
It is as I remembered it. Took me a few defeats and accidental acid drops to remember all the little details of the game play. It is nice to play a game in which mortality is at least a partial reality. A game that is challenging. Not sure I understand the concerns about the controls. Left moved left as one would have expected it to.
Some bad moments
Bought this game specifically to relive the comadore64 war games with my buddy from 1986. Multiplayer local play does not work.
Drewsniper pretty much sums it up. Its just a terrible game thats not any fun at all, it might as well be a high school tech project, except worse. A refund would be nice right about now...
I was super excited to see a port of the original, clever game, but the control system in this version renders the game almost unusable. Imprecise and clunky, half the time the game has no idea what youre clicking (making setting a trap or searching a location extremely frustrating). If youre excited about this port, be patient-- right now it is not good enough.
People that grew up reading mad magazine as kids will enjoy the retro mode and the overall look of the game however the gameplay mechanics fall short and Im left with regret for having bought this game. It might sound bad but I want my $0.99 (CAD) back. The tutorial should be an option (suggestion) that pops up at the start of the game instead of being forced on the user. The fact that you need a dozen screens to explain how the game is played (I didnt count however that was my feeling) should tell you that your gameplay mechanics dont work. Use the gestures inherit to the iOS platform like pinching, pulling, double tapping and multi touch instead of placing menus on the side of the screen. You can do better than forcing the user to move back and forth between game screen and menu all the time. It makes the whole experience irritating. A few suggestions to improve gameplay: 1) forget the d-pad style movement, instead a single tap should move the spy to that location; 2) double tap should be used for interaction with the game world (contextual action button); 3) a pull should be used to open the spys inventory/weapons menu; 4) a pinch to close said inventory/weapon menu; 5) introduce a turn based strategy mode to introduce users to all the concepts needed for gameplay.
The controls are absolute garbage, and gameplay hardly holds up
I only got it for the nostalgia but it really is annoying and the game drags on so slowly.
